CHICAGO, September 15, 2022 – Revolution Brewing and Garrett Popcorn Shops, two mainstays of the Chicago food and beverage scene, have teamed up to brew CaramelCrisp, a limited release Caramel Popcorn Ale using Revolution’s brewing experience and one of Garrett Popcorn’s signature recipes.
“There are some places you look at and the first thought is ‘that’s Chicago.’ Garrett is exactly that, and it’s also how we’ve tried to build Revolution,” Chairman of the Party Josh Deth said, “This is a city known for great food and great beers, and this brew is a pairing we couldn’t wait to create.”
CaramelCrisp is brewed similarly to a Brown Ale before the addition of 450 pounds of the freshly made namesake popcorn. Once fermented, carbonated, and packaged, it ends up as a smooth-drinking 7.0% ABV pour with notes of crème brûlée sweetness and a lightly salted finish.

The recipe development process, led by Revolution Brewmaster Jim Cibak, went through several rounds of development before landing on a recipe that included Garrett CaramelCrisp popcorn in the mash, brown sugar caramelizing in the boil, rye malt and lactose for mouthfeel, and a finish of kosher salt to complete the flavor profile.
“Our idea was to create a beer that had all those wonderful notes of the caramel corn, while adding complementary notes for additional depth and nuance,” Cibak said. “We worked with the Garrett team to understand how they make their great CaramelCrisp popcorn and then adapted those techniques for brewing to ensure the beer delivers those sweet and rich flavors.”
Boxes of CaramelCrisp, featuring the distinctive blue stripes of Garrett Popcorn Shops, will debut at retailers throughout Chicagoland and select other markets in four-packs of 16-ounce cans beginning October 1st.
